Peter Genheimer has created art as far back as he can remember. He spent his childhood in Southern Africa where his parents recognized his passion for visual arts and encouraged his development as an artist. As a young man he moved to Minnesota to study and graduated in 1977 with a BA in Fine Art.

In 1979 Peter bought his first camera, excited about the possibilities of using the medium to create images that were more than a record of time and place. He began exploring the use of line, shape, rhythm, repetition, movement and contrast to create photographic images that express a particular point of view and that draw viewers in emotionally. Throughout the photographic process he is constantly trying to distill what he sees by eliminating distractions and leveraging design principles to create a cohesive image. He fondly refers to this process as “taking the noise out”.

Peter has made Minnesota his home for the past 35 years and along with the joyful demands of family and a love of the outdoors, he continues to explore and grow on this creative journey.
