Katie Leahul is a self-taught emerging artist who resides in Calgary, Alberta with her husband and two sons. Her passion for artistry and love of color and design inspires her to create spirited paintings with an underlying esoteric structure. Katie’s earliest work draws on inspiration from Picasso, Braque, and the Cubist movement. She has continued to evolve her practice over the last two decades, and her unique geometric style has been described as a cubism revival.
Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, her process involves extensive layering of color and lines. Her subject matter often evokes a feeling of nostalgia from choice of subject matter to color palate. Her work encourages the viewer to reflect upon the small moments that define us and expresses the emotions we feel behind these nostalgic references.
