The journey continues beyond a 30 plus year background in plein air painting. The present challenge is incorporating those years of on-location study with studio refinement. How do I retain the excitement of spontaneous plein air work with more contemplative execution? Closing that gap of experience while reaching for new heights sums up the current goal of “getting better”. The elements of a good painting include concept, drawing, color/value/temperature orchestration, mood and honestly. This season of my journey is a balancing act between “what I know” and “retaining the mystery”.
